The Auckland Writers & Readers Festival is delighted to once again present its much anticipated Schools’ Programme, in the Aotea Centre in Auckland on Wednesday 9 May and Thursday 10 May 2012, designed to deliver two full days of education, inspiration and pleasure for New Zealand students.

• songwriter, poet and creative Maori writer Hinemoana Baker;
• award-winning New Zealand writer Fleur Beale;
• Artemis Fowl author and Irishman Eoin Colfer;
• expat creative non-fiction author Martin Edmond;
• Trans-Tasman graphic artist Chris Grosz;
• Weekend NZ Herald editor David Hastings;
• international award-winning writer and illustrator Oliver Jeffers;
• ex-pat writer and filmmaker Anthony McCarten;
• accomplished New Zealand creative writing teacher and writer Paula Morris;
• leading UK YA and chapter book writer Mal Peet;
• acclaimed Australian fantasy writer Emily Rodda;
• Shortland Street screenwriter and playwright Victor Rodger;
• passionate New Zealand archaeology exponent David Veart; and
• NZ Poet Laureate Ian Wedde.
The format of sessions will vary but, in general, writers will read from and discuss their work, explore subject matter and answer student questions. Books will be on sale at the venue and writers will be available to sign copies of their work for pupils.
Costs are $5 for Years 5-6 students to attend two sessions on Day One; $10 for Years 7-10 students to attend up to four sessions on Day One; $10 for Years 9-13 students to attend up to four sessions on Day Two; and $15 per student for attendance per workshop.
